I am beyond thrilled to announce that I have been named to the 2024 class of Craig Dobbin Legacy Scholars by the Ireland Canada University Foundation.

My project “Walking Belfield & Beyond: Making Visible Connections to Slavery at University College Dublin (UCD) and Environs through Movement-based Performance” builds on my PhD research into the role of walking and movement in interpreting urban memory landscapes. In particular this project builds on the research of Dr. Finola O’Kane, who has theorized a connection between the Belfield name of UCD’s central campus and the Belfield plantation in Jamaica that enslaved over four hundred people in the eighteenth and nineteenth century.

I look forward to travelling to Ireland (a place I’ve never been!) in October 2025, meeting new colleagues, walking, and learning.

Thank you so much to the Ireland Canada University Foundation, Dr. Jeremiah Garsha at the UCD School of History, and Dr. Natalie Alvarez at the Creative School, Toronto Metropolitan University, and the UCD Centre for Canadian Studies, for supporting my application, and this fantastic program!
